Ilha 12 Suites - Coimbra

Historic guesthouse near University of Coimbra with river views and free on-site parking

Location

Ilha 12 Suites is located less than 1 km from S. Sebastião Aqueduct and 400 metres from the University of Coimbra. The guesthouse is within a 14-minute walk of Santa Clara a Velha Monastery and 1 km from Portugal dos Pequenitos. Coimbra-A Train Station is 600 metres away, providing easy access to explore the city.

Accommodations

The property offers Superior Twin Rooms with city views and Family Suites that include two separate bedrooms with a seating area. Selected rooms provide scenic river views, and all units have air conditioning and private bathrooms. A shared kitchen is available for guest use, and the building retains historic frescoes and stuccos from its time as a convent.

Parking and Access

Free private parking is available on-site within a gated courtyard, a rare find in Coimbra's historic center. The entrance to the parking area is narrow, so small rental cars are recommended; staff assist with guidance. After parking, guests climb a staircase to access the rooms, which are on the upper floors of the old building.

Guest Services

Staff members, notably Susy and Brenda, are frequently praised for their warmth and assistance with luggage and directions. The guesthouse allows check-out parking usage so guests can explore the city without rush. Communication is handled via WhatsApp, and the host provides video directions for navigating the narrow streets.

Nearby Attractions

Guests can walk to the Quinta das Lagrimas gardens and the Igreja e Mosteiro da Santa Cruz within 10-15 minutes. The Convento de Santa Clara a Nova is also nearby, visible from the guesthouse. Coimbra Football Stadium is 3 km away, while Aerodromo Municipal Goncalves Lobato is 100 km from the property.
